The Fabulous Chancellors—Boise Spectrum—A Perfect Night

Welcome to the next edition of The Melody Post.  As I mentioned in my last newsletter, there were some excellent local artists with several concerts scheduled for the month of July.  I hope you were able to attend a few.  I personally decided I would pop into the outdoor concert performed by The Fabulous Chancellors that was held at the Edwards Boise Stadium 21.  I had not been to this venue for a concert before and let me tell you… it was a blast!

The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the rockin’ music of The Fabulous Chancellors spilling throughout the Boise Spectrum outdoor courtyard.   Walking down the sidewalk, there was a genuine vacation vibe in the air.  I passed smiling parents with excited children heading to their favorite movie, groups of teenagers milling about (just happy to be out of the house), and a multitude of individuals eating and enjoying the many restaurant patio areas.

As I approached the roped off concert courtyard...

I wondered if I would need to pay for entrance… and the answer is… IT WAS FREE!  What?  Do I seriously get to listen to this great band for free? Who doesn’t love free?   I made my way past the entrance and immediately noticed a couple of ladies in their 60’s and 70’s who were really… how would my mom say it? “cuttin’-a-rug,” that is to say, they were totally going for it—so fun to watch!  All I could think was, “If this is the back of the venue, what is going on near the stage?”  Well, no surprise here... more devoted dancers.
However, in this dancing area, I saw a ratio of participants that represented every generation—from the very young, to those who were young-at-heart—all whirling, jumping, and genuinely having a great time.  If you are like me and find yourself more of a spectator...you will still feel very comfortable on the sidelines.  There were plenty of us who fully appreciated the festive ambiance, smiling from ear to ear, living vicariously through those on the dance floor, and my personal favorite… unapologetically people watching.

Alcohol is available from a neighboring restaurant, but the setting is extremely family friendly, and the palpable bliss was not due to intoxication, but a simple desire to—even for a moment—let go of all worry and simply dance the night away.

Much of this bubbling energy was due to the performance that was given by The Fabulous Chancellors.  The band has been around for many years and their kick-back demeanor and outstanding musical ability undeniably adds to the ease of their performance.  The band played songs that were familiar, from all different eras and those in attendance were visibly having a good time.  The lead singer, Jon, has a strong, clear voice, well suited for any style and regardless of the song, he had the ability to capture every heart.  This talent was definitely demonstrated as the band performed their last song Shout originally sang by the Isley Brothers.

Throughout the crowd, both on the dance floor and among those seated, you could hear the echoing voices—as young and old alike—confidently sang (most) the lyrics.  As the band said their goodbyes, it was obvious the audience would have preferred them to continue singing.  In my opinion, the lively venue, the great music, the exuberant crowd, and yes… the longing for more all contributed to, what I would call… a perfect night.

Tambalka -A group of amazing musicians, each with their own resume of professional training, that have come together to create a fun, mesmerizing modern Mediterranean groove.  If you’ve been dreaming of a vacation abroad, this group will make you feel as though you’ve been whisked off for a fabulous Mediterranean escape.

Dry Buck - A talented, energetic, bluegrass band that will make you tap your foot and spontaneously smile.  They have played for years around our area and their effortless ability to perform these fast-paced tunes is absolutely worth taking time to load up the whole family.

Blues Addicts-  I love the blues and this band does it so well.  There's no question that their gritty vocals, entwined with pops of smooth brass and woodwind solos will coax even the most stubborn dancer (like me) out of their seat.

Ashley Rose- This dynamic singer/songwriter will captivate you with her compelling rich voice.  Ashley’s soulful expression will take you back to the Joni Mitchell days of storytelling through song and true artistry within music.

A New Year--The Dry Buck Bluegrass Band--and...A New Baby!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful celebration bringing in 2019.  I also hope everyone has recovered from the craziness of the holidays and took some time to enjoy the lights.  Our family had our normal Christmas on the 25 th  and then extended out our Christmas through New Years so we could celebrate with the entire family.  By the time it was all said and done I was exhausted!  Nevertheless, it was worth all the effort because there is nothing like having a houseful of kids and grandkids surrounding the table.  Of course, the biggest and best event that took place over the last month was I added another grandbaby girl to my tribe!  Whew~~!  I think I have finally caught my breath and I can now fill you in on some of my melodious thoughts.
